Journey I
Churches, castle, museum — a slow read of the town.
The harbour you already know, followed by the five streets behind it that you don't.
The town walk is the one we suggest for your first evening or a rainy morning. It's short, it's shaded, and it reads the town like a book — starting at the harbour, working back through the Ottoman and Italian layers, and ending at the Red Castle with a view of Turkey.
Flat for the most part. A little cobble. One small hill at the end if you want the castle view.

Itinerary
The Harbour
We start at the quay. The Italian-period houses, the reason the painted facades are a specific palette (governed by law since 1927).
Agios Georgios tou Pigadiou
Saint George of the Well. The church that the harbour is named around.
The Archaeological Museum
Small, free, essential. Mycenaean tombs, a Byzantine baptismal font.
The Lycian Tomb
Carved into the cliff above the town. One of only a few in Greece. Pre-Christian, pre-Greek even.
Palaiokastro
The old fortress. A short climb. The view rewards it.
Castello Rosso
The Red Castle. The namesake. Turkish coast directly ahead.
